How to Calculate an Average

The arithmetic average, also called the mean, is calculated by adding all the values and dividing the total by the number of values.

Worked example

Numbers: 10, 20 and 30

Sum = 10 + 20 + 30 = 60

Count = 3

Average = 60 ÷ 3 = 20
